It was fun, a bit like a slide...'' But what is a clarinet? Let's take a short break in history to clear up this point. 📖 | The clarinet is a wind instrument of the woodwind family. It is made of ebony and has 18 keys that allow the musician to play all the notes. 🎤 | It is the instrument closest to the human voice. Indeed, it can sound very loud or very soft, very high or very low and has a wide variety of sounds. 🌬 | To make a sound with his clarinet, the musician blows into the mouthpiece and vibrates the reed. Xiao and Dizi Lessons: Breath, Tone, Ornamentation, and Chinese Bamboo Flute Repertoire I teach xiao and dizi with a focus on breath, tone, phrasing, ornamentation, and musical expression. The xiao and dizi are two important Chinese bamboo flutes, each with its own sound world. The dizi has a clear and bright tone, often used in traditional music, theater, folk melodies, and contemporary screen music. The xiao has a deeper and more intimate sound, well suited to slow melodies, lyrical phrasing, and meditative repertoire. My lessons are adapted to each student's background and goals. You are welcome whether you are a complete beginner, a musician from another tradition, or someone who discovered these instruments through Chinese drama, traditional music, or East Asian culture. In this class, we can work on: Basic playing technique and posture Breath, tone production, and sound control Dizi membrane pasting and adjustment Ornamentation, phrasing, and expressive details Numbered notation and/or staff notation Traditional repertoire Pieces chosen according to your interests Listening and understanding the musical style behind the instrument I teach in English and French.
