I teach a range of disciplines, including piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music theory. Having taught students of all ages and different levels of musicianship, I am pleased to say that I have built long-lasting relationships with many of my students. With an emphasis on creativity and student input; my lessons allow students to discover their own playing style and musical direction. I strongly believe that people learn best when they enjoy what they’re doing, and I incorporate this into my teaching style. I strongly encourage my students to bring their own ideas and suggestions to the lessons; that way they can learn a piece of music that they really like. With a background in classical music, I underpin my lessons with useful technical exercises that encourage dexterity, time-keeping and fluency. I am a classically trained pianist with a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Piano and a Master’s degree in Musical Directing, bringing over a decade of experience to both performance and teaching. With more than 12 years of experience working with adults and children, including those with special needs and learning differences, I have developed a teaching style that is both patient and structured. I believe that a strong foundation in technique opens the door for true musical expression, allowing every student—no matter their age or ability—to discover the joy of making music. I am well-versed with the different examination boards such as ABRSM/Trinity/Rockschool Whether I am preparing a student for exams, guiding beginners through their first scales, or encouraging creativity through performance, my goal is always to foster confidence, discipline, and artistry at the piano.

Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation. Evie has been teaching a broad range of students for the last eight years: those who wish to take graded exams, those looking to explore folk and improvisation, expand their repertoire, or brush up on technique. She also currently teaches group violin classes at a primary school in London. She has found that encouraging a structured and regular practice at home, if possible with the help of a parent or guardian, is the best way to reach goals and feel confident while playing. Most of all, she encourages students to be open-minded, inquisitive, and ready to listen to a variety of music! Evie is always ready to cater specifically to the needs and interests of the student, and to create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. In lessons, she will cover sight-reading, exam preparation, music theory, focused technique, improvisation, standard repertoire, and any music the student may wish to explore on their instrument.

Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship. If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades. My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

I believe lessons should be first and foremost enjoyable, but also serve as a means to break new ground and inspire as much practice as possible at home! So we'll start by establishing an objective of the student's choice that reflects their ambitions, and then work through the appropriate techniques, exercises, and repertoire that allows us to get there in as enjoyable a way as possible! Lessons will be supplemented with listening/aural exercises, music theory training, and performance/contextual discussions (if necessary!).

I always make sure all pupils enjoy their lessons giving a friendly and fun approach to them. Regardless of age and skill level I want my students to be able to enjoy their time practicing and playing. I can prepare students for all grades of the ABRSM or other boards exams and I complement the lessons with music theory and aural skills training when needed. I can also offer music theory lessons that being to complement music education, prepare for the ABRSM music theory exams or just to expand the knowledge in that area. The approach for in-person and online tuition are quite similar. I effectively teach using both methods with great results in both. When online, I make sure they are of exceptional quality and the pupil gets the same results they would get in person. They are ideal if traveling is a limitation for the student or just want to take them from the comfort of their home using their own instrument. If preferred, I can also give the lesson in Spanish.

I am a recent MA Musical Theatre graduate from the Royal Academy of Music and have a wealth of performance experience in the genre. I am also classically trained and have achieved distinctions in classical voice grades as well as a BA (hons) Music degree from the University of Oxford where I achieved the cohort's highest grade for my performance recital in 2022. I have experience performing in operatic productions, another genre which keen students can gain tuition.
